Shark Repellent – free skit for 2 talking clowns

[Editor’s note: ever notice how we tend to get caught in certain habits, that we keep doing over and over, even when the reason for doing it’s long gone … or never existed in the first place?]
Props needed: A water spray bottle, optionally with a paper label on it that says “Shark Repellent”
Bible verse: Matthew 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
Clown 1: (walks on stage with “shark repellent” bottle, begins spraying with abandon) Can’t be too careful!
Clown 2: (walks on, noticing what Clown 1 is doing) What are you doing?
Clown 1: (without interrupting his “important” job) I’m spraying!
Clown 2: (mildly irritated) Yes, I see that.  Spraying what?
Clown 1: (spraying with high energy) Shark repellent!
Clown 2: Shark repellent? Wait a minute! (grabs Clown 1 and turns him so they face to face) Sharks live in salt water!  In the ocean! We live in Wisconsin! (or whatever would be appropriate to you) There are no sharks around here!
Clown 1: Really?
Clown 2: There have never been any sharks around here?
Clown 1: Really?
Clown 2: There never will be any sharks around here!
Clown 1: Wow … (looks at the bottle, then looks out at the audience, as though he’s had a revelation) this stuff really works! (resumes spraying with abandon)!
(a good point for a whiteface clown, youth minister, etc. to talk about our tendency to do things just because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”)
