No Good Deed Goes Unpunished – a clown skit for 3 or more speaking clowns

Application: We shouldn’t let rules get in the way of bringing joy to others

Scripture: 1 Peter 3:17: For it is better to suffer doing good, if suffering should be God’s will, than to suffer for doing evil.

Pi enters and makes a balloon apple. He gives the balloon apple to someone in the
congregation. (All of the audience members are previously recruited and briefed for their
roles.)

JJ enters and pops the balloon.
JJ- “No food is allowed in the sanctuary.”
Raynbow moves to another person in the congregation and offers him a section of his newspaper. They begin to read the paper together.
JJ grabs the newspaper and tears it into shreds.
JJ- “Sorry, there’s no good news in there. The good news is in this and hands them the clown Bible. Look at this mess.” He picks up the newspaper scraps.
Doc gives a third member of the congregation a kazoo. They begin to play When the Saints Go March In along with others in the congregation including clowns on kazoos handed out beforehand.
JJ- “Give me those. Only the choir and organist can make music at church.” He walks down the aisle collecting kazoos from everyone as he rants and raves about all of the abuses of church rules that are happening.
Steve approaches JJ
Steve- “This clown is trying to do good by bringing joy to the congregation and you’re punishing him.” He picks up the clown bible and reads. 1 Peter 3:17 For it is better to suffer doing good, if suffering should be God’s will, than to suffer for doing evil. “We shouldn’t let rules get in the way of bringing joy to others.
