In Breaking the Lease, the Mertzes and the Ricardos are staying up late, singing around the piano.  All is a love fest between the two couples, until the Mertzes go downstairs while the Ricardos do one last verse of “Sweet Sue – only to have the Mertzes call and complain about the noise!  Lucy and Ricky try to go to bed, fighting over whether the window should be open or closed (a classic bit, very funny to watch), only to be upset by something that Fred Mertz has promised to fix, but hasn’t.  One thing leads to another, and ends with Lucy and Ricky threatening to move out of the apartment!  However, Fred refuses to let them out of the lease.

Lucy Writes a Novel – I Love Lucy episode 90, season 3, originally aired 4/5/1954.

Lucy Writes a Novel begins with Lucy, hearing of a housewife who earned $10,000 for a novel that she wrote decides to do the same.  She writes what she knows about – her life and her dearest friends, Ricky, Ethel and Fred.  Although she tells Ricky about her ‘novel idea’ she refuses to let him, or anyone else, see it.  As their curiosity builds, Ricky, Ethel, and Fred begin to scour the apartment trying to find Lucy’s manuscript.  But when they do finally find it, they wish that they hadn’t.

Ricky Loses His Temper is a very funny “€œRicky versus Lucy”€ episode, that begins with Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) trying to show off her new hat to her husband, Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz).  Since Ricky always dislikes her new, expensive, hats, Lucy has decided to turn the tables on him and wear her new hat and put the old hat in the new hat box.  Ricky is too clever, however, and claims to like the ‘new’ hat more.  Lucy is disappointed, and the two of them are laughing over it —  until the frugal Ricky asks her how much the new hat costs.   Lucy doesn’t want to tell, and it’s a funny physical comedy as Lucy tries to eat the price tag.  Only to have Ricky grab the string attached to the tag and pull it out and explode in anger over the price – $49.50!

In Ricky’s Life Story, after Ricky receives coverage in Life magazine — with photos of Ricky, the baby, and … Lucy’s arm — Lucy again wants her own fame, and pressures Ricky to give her a place in the show.  After a discussion with Fred Mertz, Ricky agrees, deciding to show Lucy just how difficult show business can be.  Ricky has Fred call and pretends that he needs a red-haired female dancer at the club, leading to a very funny bit as Lucy tries to match the description during the phone call.

Ricky’s Movie Offer is the beginning of the trip to Hollywood story arc, which begins innocently enough. First, landlord Fred Mertz (William Frawley) installs a new burglar-proof lock in the apartment of Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball). Since his wife Ethel has read about burglars conniving their way into apartments in order to rob them.  No sooner has Fred finished than his wife, Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance) opens the door, breaking the “burglar-proof”€ chain.  While Fred goes to get something stronger, Ethel babysits Little Ricky while Lucy rushes out to a dental appointment.

Lucy Gets Homesick in Italy is one of those I Love Lucy episodes that is both funny and heartwarming.  As part of Ricky’s European tour, Ricky, Lucy, Fred and Ethel are visiting Italy, where tightwad Fred has booked the group in the cheapest hotel in the country.  A small street urchin, a shoe shine boy, offers to shine their shoes, but he is shooed away by the hotel manager.  After checking in, and learning that their rooms are many, many floors up, the hotel owner tells them that the elevator is out of order.

Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined begins with Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) rehearsing with his band at his club, suffering from a headache.  His wife Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) suspects that it’s a problem with his eyes, and he promises to have his eyes examined.  An old friend of Ricky’s, Broadway producer Bill Parker, arrives at the club, and Ricky invites him to join them for dinner that evening — warning him not to mention show business to Lucy.  While Fred Mertz (William Frawley) and his wife Ethel (Vivian Vance) are visiting with Lucy, however, they spill the beans — and plans to audition for Bill Parker’s new show.

Lucy Visits Grauman’s is a very funny episode of I Love Lucy – a true classic.  It begins innocently enough, with Lucy (along with Fred and Ethel Mertz) trying to decide where to go while they’re in Hollywood.  Lucy decides for the group that they’ll go to Grauman’s Chinese Theater, where many celebrities have their footprints, hand prints and signatures in the cement blocks outside of the theater.  When Lucy notices that the cement block containing John Wayne’s signature is loose, she begins to have an idea … about the ultimate souvenir to take home to New York.

Never Do Business With Friends begins with Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) doing the laundry in the kitchen, hanging up all of the laundry in the kitchen, turning it into a maze of wet clothes. After her husband Ricky (Desi Arnaz) leaves for the day, her best friend Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance) comes over to visit, and Lucy decides that she absolutely has to have a new dryer.  Leaving Ethel to complain that her old washing machine is even worse. Later, in a very funny moment where Lucy goes on and on about how she needs a dryer, she totally misses Ricky having told her that he’s bought her a new washer and dryer.  And this sets the stage for the conflict, as Fred Mertz (William Frawley) offers to buy the Ricardo’s used washing machine for $35.00.
