Stewardship – Giving – a clown skit for 4 silent clowns, written by John Gravley

MAIN IDEA: show that God does not want part of our possessions but wants all of who we are.

HELPERS: four clowns and one non-clown to be the preacher.

SETTING: this takes place during a worship service. The “preacher” shares some words on giving/stewardship and then the clowns act out the “offering.”

PROPS: a large cutout of a bank note (dollar bill), a ruler, pencil, scissors, a large paper clock that says “My Time” (see picture above), a day planner, a large paper heart and a large offering bag.

SKIT: the skit begins with the clowns entering and taking their seat up front ready to listen to the preacher. When the clowns are seated the preacher reads some scripture related to giving. (i.e. Luke 21:1-4) The clowns listen somewhat attentively. One may sleep, another try to keep the clown awake but one listens very well.

When the preacher is finished, another clown gets up to collect the offering and stands holding the large offering bag. One clown starts to think and finally pulls out the LARGE bank note, a ruler and a pencil. Very carefully this clown measures one tenth of the note. When this has been measured the clown takes the scissors and cuts a little less than a tenth off and very proudly shows everyone and places it into the offering bag.

The next clown gets up and thinks about the offering and takes out the day planner/calendar and clock. After thinking about it for a while this clown decided to give some time. The first clown hands over the scissors and the clown cuts a portion of time out of the clock and puts it into the offering bag.

The last clown stands and considers what to give. At first this clown cannot think of anything to give. After thinking a long time the clown pulls out a large paper heart. The clown looks at the heart and thinks and then prays. The other clowns are watching and one hands this clown the scissors. The clown thinks about it some more and seems to be deciding how much of the heart to cut to give in the offering. Finally after considering it for a while this clown throws down the scissors and puts the whole heart into the offering.

At this the other clowns are stunned and recognize how much they have held back from God. The clown with the money puts the rest into the offering and the clown with the clock puts the rest into the offering.

All the clowns hug….

THE END
