In Lucy the Process Server, Lucy has to deliver a summons to a woman who’s evaded previous attempts. And deposit $1,500 cash …

In Lucy the Process Server, Lucy has to deliver a summons to a woman (Reta Shaw) who’s evaded multiple previous attempts. Harry’s tried all of the competent process servers, and he’s desperate enough to ask Lucy!

At the department store, there’s a very funny scene, as she’s trying to find her, guided only by a photograph. And “discreetly” looking at each female shopper. Even the floor walker! Only to accidentally find her, as they’re both fighting over the same dress. And tearing it in half!

Lucy thinks she's serving a summons to Mabel Ryker

“She likes to throw her weight around.”
“And she’s got the weight to throw around!”

Digging through the garbage

But she’s confused the summons with the $1,500 cash she was supposed to deposit at the bank! Thankfully, Mabel threw the “summons” in the trash. But Lucy doesn’t realize the mistake until she’s back at the office. And Harry needs his $1,500 back! So, back to the department store, and Lucy goes down the garbage chute after it!

Back at home

Finally, after her long day, Lucy goes back home to her children. Where Craig has bad news …. While playing baseball with friends, he accidentally knocked a home run ball through somebody’s window! He went to her door to apologize & offer to pay for the window, but the grumpy woman wouldn’t hear it! She’ll be arriving any moment. Of course, it’s Mabel Ryker — and Lucy uses the opportunity to actually serve the summons!

Cast of characters

  • Reta Shaw (Mary Poppins) … Mabel Ryker. The unlikable lady who’s been avoiding the subpoena.

Funny quotes

Harry Carter (Gale Gordon): [Dictating a letter] Dear sir. Carter’s Unique Employment Agency takes pride in finding unusual jobs for unusual people. And I am happy to tell you we’ve found for you a pitted olive pimiento patter.
Lucy Carter (Lucille Ball): [Puzzled, interrupting] What is a pitted olive pimiento patter?
Harry Carter (Gale Gordon): He’s a man who stands in the assembly line and, as the olives roll along, if any of them have their pimientos sticking out, he pats them back in again.

Floorwalker: [with Lucy stuck in the garbage chute] You can’t leave her her upside-down!
Harry Carter (Gale Gordon): Why not? She doesn’t know which side is up anyway!
