Steward-“ship” – a clown skit for 1 clown and narrator

Props Needed: Cruise pamphlets, toy ship with STEWARD printed on it or plywood cutout of ship put on laundry baskets to form ship and hold stewardship forms.

Narrator: Once there was a clown.

Narrator : [Walks to middle of stage, clasps hands overhead, “shakes” hands as in cheering. Puts hands down and continues offstage.]

Narrator : One day s/he decided to take a cruise
Clown : [Looking at cruise pamphlets.]

Narrator : But there were so many to choose from.

Clown : [Scratches head]

Narrator : Did s/he want to go on __(name of cruise line)___?

Clown : [holds up pamphlet]

Narrator : No, not this time.

Clown : [Throws pamphlet over shoulder]

Narrator : How about going on __Name of cruise line)___?

Clown : [Clown holds up pamphlet]

Narrator : No, not this one either

Clown : [Throws over shoulder]

Narrator : Not __name of cruise line__, or __name of cruise line__, or ___name
of cruise line__, or ___name of cruise line___.

Clown : [Clown is throwing pamphlets over shoulder]

Narrator : Suddenly the clown knew what ship to take.

Clown : [Eyes “light” up and clown raises pointer finger]

Clown : [Gets toy ship or uncovers larger ship, and shows audience]

Narrator : S/he wanted the “steward”-ship.

Narrator : And s/he wants to invite you along
Fill out the pledge forms being handed out to you and drop them in the boat in the back.

[Editor’s note: for a longer skit, you could add some more ‘clownish’ options in addition to the various cruise lines – for instance, ‘The Good Ship Lollipop’ – the clown pulls out a giant lollipop, about to lick it, when the Narrator says ‘No, not this one.’ – clown reacts, sadly puts away the lollipop, etc.]
