The Goat (1921) starring Buster Keaton, Virginia Fox
In The Goat (1921) Buster Keaton is the scapegoat. Everyone THINKS Buster is the dangerous criminal Dead Shot Dan -and treats him accordingly!

When Buster sees the “wanted for murder” poster, he (wrongly) thinks that he’s accidentally killed the man who was bothering the young woman. When he thinks he sees a ghost — actually a man covered in mortar — he runs for his life! And literally runs into the Police Chief!
