Archery contest – an archery contest to see which of the two clowns can shoot their arrow higher into the air – with an unexpected conclusion!
Required:
- Three clowns – one in an inexpensive astronaut suit
- A toy bow and arrow set
- Possibly a stuffed duck, rubber chicken, or whatever is used for the first clown’s shot
Archery contest — whoever can shoot their arrow highest will win!
From The Red Skelton Hour episode, Saddle Sores on the Old Corral. This is not the famous skit about William Tell. Instead, it has two clowns holding an archery contest. And whoever can shoot their arrow higher will win.
The first clown shoots in the air, and a variety of comedy bits can happen. A stuffed duck can be thrown onto the stage, even with a toy arrow in it, for example. Then the second clown shoots high into the air. Lots of opportunity for humor here, as the clown can forget the arrow, shoot the bow instead of the arrow, etc. But eventually he either fires the toy arrow into the air or pantomimes it …
And after a brief wait (while the two clowns clown around, or tease each other) a third person walks on in an astronaut suit, with an arrow under his armpit, to look like he’d been hit with the arrow!
