Drafted [I Love Lucy]

Drafted - in this I Love Lucy episode, Fred and Ricky are practising for a military performance

Drafted – I Love Lucy episode 09, originally aired 12/24/1951

Drafted is a wonderful ‘mix-up’ episode of I Love Lucy.  W,hen Ricky receives a letter from the War Department ordering him to appear at Fort Dix, Lucy assumes that he has been drafted. In reality, he’s entertaining the troops.  Ricky invites Fred to come along after learning that he has an old vaudeville Civil War routine that he can perform as well. Lucy and Ethel, misunderstanding, start to knit socks for the boys.  Which the boys misinterpreted to mean that the girls are pregnant.

The boys intend to throw a ‘baby shower party’ for the girls, while the girls intend to throw a ‘going away party’ for the boys, resulting in a wonderful scene where each group starts hiding the arriving guests in the closet to surprise the other group, stuffing the closet with people like a circus clown car.

Drafted is available as part of the season 1 I Love Lucy DVD collection.

I Love Lucy Quotes

Fred (William Frawley): Now why bring that up when we’re having such a good time?
Ricky (Desi Arnaz): Well, maybe you know women better than I do.  Lucy’s been acting strange lately.
Fred (William Frawley): Strange?  How can you tell?
