Lucy’s Second Honeymoon – I Love Lucy season 5
On the ocean liner to Europe, Lucy is planning on a Second Honeymoon. As part of I Love Lucy‘s European Tour story arc, the Ricardos and the Mertzes are traveling on an ocean liner on their way to Europe. On the way there, Lucy is hoping to have a second honeymoon with Ricky — but for Ricky, the trip is all work, leaving him little time for anything else.
To make Lucy feel even worse, it seems that everyone else on board the ship is becoming romantic — even the normally feuding Fred and Ethel are turning into love birds!
Lucy tries to sign up for the various ship activities (ping pong, shuffleboard, etc.) — but the fact that everyone is paired up as couples only accentuates her loneliness. Sitting in a deck chair, she tries to stir up a conversation with a potential partner for the games, until his wife comes by to take him to their games. The activity director does manage to find a partner for her, however — a young boy named Kenny.
Later, Lucy gets three whole minutes with Ricky before he has to go off to his next performance, and tells him about how she and young Kenny — and Ricky misunderstands, thinking that he has a rival until the young man shows up at their door. At the dance, Lucy is dancing with Kenny. She tries to steal a moment with Ricky, but he’s called off to work, and won’t be done until 2:30 in the morning — and Lucy promises to wait for him on the promenade deck, where she’s surrounded by lovebirds until he shows up.
Ricky is too tired to dance, and Lucy is romantic — while Ricky is exhausted, leading to him falling asleep while looking at the “romantic” moon with Lucy. Afterward, Lucy asks Ethel for “one simple little thing” — kidnapping Ricky! It turns out that Ricky has arranged to have the whole night off! Lucy goes to the porthole to warn Ethel that the kidnapping is off — and gets stuck in the porthole! Ricky tries pulling her in, while Fred and Ethel push …
Ricky serenades Lucy … and the camera pulls back, showing the audience that she’s still stuck in the porthole, with workers on the inside of the room trying to get her out … with an acetylene torch!
