Clowning Book of the Month – May 2021
Continuing the monthly saga of who’s purchasing what from Amazon via our humble site. As you’ve probably discovered by now, we’ve posted quite a few book and movie reviews of clown-related things on the site, most of which are available at Amazon.com. If you’re curious, here is the bestseller list from the famousclowns.org web site for last month. Books, Videos, and the “how did that show up?”
Books
- Tramp: The Life of Charlie Chaplin
- Red Skelton: An Unauthorized Biography – written by Arthur Marx, Groucho‘s son
- Seeing Red : The Skelton in Hollywood’s Closet – an affectionate, yet honest, biography by Wes Gehring
- American Legends: The Life of Red Skelton
Other Clown-related items
- Sunflower Headgear, Funny Performance Props
- A cute headgear, to make a person look like a sunflower. I can see using this for either audience participation or used in a clown skit.
Videos
- Alice in Wonderland – a very interesting retelling of the classic story, done by Steve Allen, with lots of the great clowns of the day including: Harvey Korman, Imogene Coca, Arte Johnson, Donald O’Connor, Sid Caesar, Martha Raye
- Red Skelton Whistling Collection – I absolutely love Red Skelton‘s Whistling trilogy of movies – an excellent blend of drama and clowning, and highly recommended.
How did that get here?
- Swiss Army Knife
- Mascara, Polo shirts, shoes, and the song “Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are” from The Wizard of Oz
