The Chicken Order is a short vaudeville skit, aka. quick blackout. I first saw it on The Red Skelton Show episode, Climb Upon My Knee, Dummy Boy. It goes like this:
Props:
- Desk and chair for the “business man” to sit behind.
- Prop phone. In the original skit, it was hollow. The “delivery” can be stored there, or in a desk drawer.
- Toy chicks, or real chicks. Being clowns, we can of course substitute rubber chickens 🙂

This is a one-clown skit.
The Chicken Order Skit
Businessman Red, working at his desk, orders two orders of chicken from “Chicken Delirious” to be delivered right away. He asks for them to be delivered in a hurry, then complains to the audience that they’re never in a hurry. He hears a “cheep”, lifts up the hollow prop telephone, and reveals … two baby chicks!
Notes
- Around Easter, it’s (relatively) easy to find toy chicks in a Dollar Store or something like that. One that I’ve seen has a pair of metal connectors across the Botton of the toy chick. Place it on your hand, or across your fingers, and it completes the connection and the chick starts “cheeping”. That would work well here
- An alternate ending would be to pull out a pair (or more) of rubber chickens, and complain to the audience that they got the orde4r wrong … again!
- Another possibility would be for the clown to start juggling the rubber chickens. Don’t play with your food! 🙂
