Don Juan and the Starlets - Ricky's got some 'splainin' to do!

Lucy waits up for Ricky on the couch in their Hollywood hotel but falls asleep.  When Ricky finally comes home at 2:30 in the morning, he tries unsuccessfully to wake Lucy so that they can go to bed, and failing he goes go bed by himself, since he has to get up at 5:30 in the morning to head out to the studio.  After Ricky leaves, a maid comes in and starts to make the bed and clean up the apartment, but leaves once she sees Lucy sleeping on the couch.  When Lucy does wake up, and sees the made bed, she assumes that Ricky has stayed out all night, and is very upset with him.  When Ricky does come home, Fred tries to cover for him, to no effect.  Ricky has no explanation why the bed is made, and looks guilty, until the maid comes back in, and all is explained and happiness returns.

This episode is available on the I Love Lucy season 4 DVD.

Funny quotes from I Love Lucy – Don Juan and the Starlets

Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): They play the four girls who are in love with me in the picture.
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): Oh, that’s exciting.

Photographer: ‘Don Juan’ is all about love, it has nothing to do with marriage.

Lucy [jealous of the starlets that Ricky is attending a movie premiere with]: I’m smiling.
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): I don’t like it when you smile that way.
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): Don’t press your luck, I’m smiling.

Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): Honey, you know I had nothing to do with this.  Don’t get mad.
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): Mad?  Me, mad?  Why, why should I be mad?  On the contrary, I’m glad, very glad.  Why when those four girls walked in here today it was the happiest day of my life.  When they didn’t want me to be in the pictures I wanted to jump for joy!
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): Lucy …
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): And my goodness, when you all put on those bathing suits and trooped down to the pool, I just felt as if my fondest dreams had come true.
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): Now, honey …
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): And you thought I was mad.  Why I wasn’t mad.  I was happy, happy, H-A-P-P-Y.  Happy!

Fred Mertz (William Frawley): I just wanted to check if we’re still going to Knottsberry Farm.
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): The only knots you’ll see today is on Ricky’s head!

Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): Hi, honey!
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) [thinking that Ricky has been out all night with starlets]: Oh! Have you no shame?
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): Wha’ hoppen?
Fred Mertz (William Frawley): You’ll never get out of this one.  Just turn around and swim back to Cuba.

Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): The phantom maid strikes again!
