Lucy Wants New Furniture – I Love Lucy episode 63, originally aired 6/1/1953, seasons 2
Lucy Wants New Furniture is a very funny I Love Lucy episode starts with Lucy (again!) wanting new furniture, which she goes ahead and purchases without Ricky’s knowledge or consent. Deciding to break it gently to him, Lucy (with Ethel’s help) move all of the new furniture into the kitchen. This leads to a funny routine where Lucy ‘surprises’ Ricky by having dinner in the living room, and when Ricky asks for things such as salt, or butter, and Lucy has to dash to the Mertzes apartment, since she can’t navigate through her kitchen.
Soon Ricky finds out what’s going on, and he puts his foot down. He‘ll keep the new furniture at his club until she can pay for it from her allowance. Lucy then decides to become comically frugal, to the point of making her own dresses and doing her own permanent – both with ridiculous failures. The final joke is also visual, as Lucy demonstrates that she cut a little too deep – and lifts up a section of the rug in the shape of her dress!
