In With Love and Hisses: Dimwitted Cuthbert Hope is enlisted in the army, and gets himself and his sergeant in constant trouble.

Buy from Amazon.com With Love and Hisses is an absolutely hilarious Laurel and Hardy silent short film, where Stan and Ollie aren’t quite partners just yet. Ollie is the sergeant, and Stan is his newest recruit — who keeps unintentionally causing trouble. A very funny running gag is that Stan does something, and gets in trouble with Oliver. Who then does the exact same thing – and gets in trouble with Captain James Finlayson!

There’s a lot of humor and slapstick on the train ride to the camp, as it’s comedically overcrowded and one of Stan’s bunkmates is eating garlic. Powerful garlic! And the open window only serves to get Finlayson pied!

At the camp itself, Sgt. Banner is taking the recruits for a “short” march – and getting lost. Then, go all go skinny dipping! Unaware that Oliver has carelessly tossed a lit match onto their pile of clothes! And there’s a surprise inspection back at the camp …

Editorial Reviews

With Love and Hisses finds the boys doing a peacetime Army stint under the command of that famous military ladies man, Jimmy Finlayson. Oliver Hardy is his First Sergeant; Stan Laurel his worst recruit. They take turns trashing Jimmy’s Pullman berth, then at dawn, upon arrival at camp, Stan really begins wreaking havoc!
