The Fixer Uppers – Oliver Hardy follows Stan Laurel’s suggestion, and tries to make a husband jealous. And succeeds all too well!

But the plan backfires, as the husband challenges him to a duel to the death! Despite their attempts to explain, the hot-headed husband won’t listen, and challenges Oliver to a duel to the death!

How to avoid the duel?

Drowning their sorrows at a bar, Oliver is despondent. Until Stan makes the suggestion that Oliver just doesn’t show up! Lifting his spirits so much that he decides to call and taunt the husband! But then they make the mistake of having an inebrieted customer buy them drinks. So many that they drunken pair are taken to the address on the card that the police found in Oliver’s pocket. That the jealous husband gave him!

The Duel

Stan and Ollie decide to merely not show up, but with the help of an inebriated customer of theirs, they wind up in the last place on earth that they wanted to be … Just in time for the duel!

The duel itself its a comic farce! Mae’s replaced the bullets with blanks, Oliver gets shot in the posterior anyway, and plays dead! The husband comes back with knives to carve up the corpse! So Oliver gets up and runs for his life through the door! Finally, having hidden in a garbage can, he’s hauled off by the garbage man, ending the short.

Mrs. Pierre Gustave: If my husband saw you kissing me, like he kissed me the first time we met, I’m sure that would make him jealous.
Oliver: Well how did he kiss you?
Mrs. Pierre Gustave: I’ll show you. [demonstrates on Stan] He had his arms around me, like that. And I put my arms around him, like this. We pressed tightly together. Then, his lips met mine. [long, long, long kiss, Ollie checks his watch, Stan passes out]
Now, when you hear my husband coming, that’s all you have to do.
[Stan moves in to Mrs. Gustave and gives her another kiss, she passes out]
Oliver: Now look what you’ve done!
Stanley: Well, she started it.
